About Me

I have ventured into multiple entrepreneurial endeavors, achieving successful exits from two tech ventures. Presently, I helm Agile Financial Technologies as its founder and CEO, a software product company catering to the insurance and investment management sectors with a customer base across 35 countries worldwide.

Among my circles, I go by KPD, while others opt for the simpler “Kal” when my name proves challenging to pronounce. Writing poetry serves as my therapeutic outlet, enabling me to explore and share insights in a creatively abstract fashion that resonates with people.

I curate my own Instagram blog (@kalpeshdesai.official), and you will find sneak insights into my upcoming book titled “Anywhere but Here” This book will document my entrepreneurial journey, and offer glimpses into life lessons, pivotal moments, and personal revelations. Utilizing poems and quotes, I aim to infuse positivity, hope, and motivation, while also sharing profound insights and perspectives for readers to explore. I term this approach as “shifting your paradigm without a clutch.” Additionally, I write poems touching on themes of relationship dynamics, romance, family, and the intricacies of human interaction.

I have recently launched my debut book, “Jasmines In Her Hair”,  which chronicles a journey of love, healing, and self-discovery. The links to access these books are below.

Should you wish to connect with me professionally, you will find me on LinkedIn.

Do also follow my Instagram page if you would like to listen to my spoken-word renditions of my poetry, which I post from time to time.

What Keeps Me Awake

“Wants” often drive our ambition and fuel our anxiety. Though needs are ever-present, we somehow find ourselves compromising them in favor of wants—wants that are not truly ours but imposed by the expectations and desires of others.

The weight of these expectations consumes us, transforming them into perceived needs. We feel the need to leave a legacy, to ensure that others are provided for when we are gone, to make certain they have what they require to fulfill their dreams.

Yet, what truly haunts us is the realization that we are not living our own lives. We are living for others, chasing pursuits that do not belong to us.

When we align with our inner nature, what keeps us awake at night may transform into a state of wakefulness—one marked by consciousness, awareness, and peace.

May we rest in peace.

This poem was written as an after-poem to @ek_taara’s piece, “Wakeup Call” where the distinction she brought up between what we want and what we require resonated with me. Do follow this brilliant poetess if you’re not doing so already. There’s a ton of wisdom packed in square boxes on her page.

What are your takeaways from this? I would love to read your views.

Ishq ki Jurrat (The Courage to Love)

Payal (@inkedsoulwhisperer) and I have the pleasure of presenting one more collab to celebrate the monsoon before it ebbs away.

Amidst the monsoon’s tender embrace, lovers discover their own melody. As raindrops cascade, their hearts begin to beat in unison. Who can escape the monsoon’s magic without being drenched in its rhythmic patter? Just as the rain softens the earth, it softens hearts too, drawing lovers closer to create a love song unlike any other.

Being in love means that one has to give way to vulnerability. This poem invites those who hold back from loving to drop their defences and take the leap, in the faith that the one they take the leap for will hold them when they are most vulnerable.

Disclaimer: The authors are not responsible for any feelings these words evoke in you. These verses may be fictional though they may have references to characters past, present, and future. Reader discretion is advised. This is best listened to with a glass of wine.

Undiscovered

From “Homesick” by Nadia Rana (@heartofnadia)

I have followed @heartofnadia on Instagram since 2021, when I first came across her evocative and intimate poems that deeply resonated with me. I couldn’t wait to grab my copy of this book the moment she announced its launch.

I chose this poem to do a spoken-word ro showcase the wisdom imbibed in her words. We talk about how we can let our minds become stagnant and hide away from the world, but we hold the key to unlocking our true potential within us. Our senses may become dulled, but the path to discovering ourselves is there, hidden behind our fears and the unknown. There is much to uncover if we are willing to face our doubts and embrace the journey of self-discovery.

The word “home” means many things to many people. It is not just a physical place but also the memories, moments, relationships, people, experiences, and feelings that once brought us comfort. Nadia brings that essence out like nobody I have read before, starting with her titular poem, “Homesick,” which sets the tone for the entire collection.

“Homesick” captures the essence of longing, loss, and the quest for belonging. Be prepared to go on a profound and emotional journey with Nadia as she uses her exceptional ability to translate complex emotions into words—exploring themes of grief, love, and the relentless quest for home and belonging—with authenticity that is both haunting and healing.

To those of us who have journeyed through life, feeling that we are missing an integral piece of ourselves or have lost a bit of ourselves along the way, I say to you—the wisdom-laden verses painstakingly written by Nadia are your guide to your journey home.

Consider this book an essential gift to your soul. Do head over to the link in @heartofnadia’s bio and grab your copy today!

Jaded

How does one become jaded over time? Have you ever paused to reflect on how you began with an unwavering ability to trust so completely? Then, life, with its inevitable truths, crept in. The love you once believed to be eternal slowly crumbles, turning to mere ashes and dust. And in that transformation, all that remains are the distant echoes of what once was, leaving you to wonder where the innocence of trust has gone.

Perhaps the access to healing our brokenness is to allow ourselves to trust innocently again.

I had written this for the prompt “ashes” hosted by the very talented @njram6 and @scribbled_aafiyat for @poets_island. Do check out their pages and give them a follow.

Did these words resonate with you? I would love to read what you have to say in the comments below.

Fragility

From “Written Words Remain” by Jasmine Miró (@routetomysoul)

I had the privilege of performing the spoken word for this beautiful poem, which is now included in Jasmine’s exquisite book. It captures the essence of the collection and will inspire you to explore its pages.

Healing and strength lie in self-expression and embracing our imperfections and pain. In moments of darkness and emotional turmoil, especially when love turns to pain and affection to anger, we find solace in expressing ourselves. It is in these delicate moments that serenity is found in solitude. By embracing our vulnerability and flaws, we learn to reject hate and discover acceptance.

You will find her poems to be Rumi-esque and her ability to convey deep emotions with evocative words will hold you in awe. When she launched her debut poetry book, I knew it had to be part of my collection.

There is nothing stronger than demonstrating one’s fragility and vulnerability and sharing it with the world. There is nothing more beautiful than a book that is a “kintsugi of the soul in written words”—words that linger long after you put it down. This is precisely what “Where Written Words Remain” embodies—the grace of embracing one’s vulnerabilities and finding oneself.

“Where Written Words Remain” explores a soul’s journey from discovering our fragility and vulnerability to examining the fragments that define us, the stories that inform us, and ultimately reaching a place of wholeness. From the first page, Jasmine’s poetry will captivate you. Her poems are beautifully structured, each line chosen to evoke a strong emotional response. The collection is divided into four chapters, each representing a different stage in the soul’s journey toward “home.” You will be guided through various phases of life and introspection with her vivid, evocative, and immersive words, witnessing the evolution of her voice and the depth of her reflections.

If you seek a deeper understanding of the human experience—love, loss, healing, and self-acceptance—or need comfort at a similar juncture in life, this book is for you.

Coffee

This poem is in response to the prompt “Storm Clouds” by #wolfpack_prompts, hosted by the very talented trio @eerieelegies, @brushandpentales, and @pink_sky_poetry.

What does it mean to be someone’s warm cup of coffee on a cold day, to be someone’s safety net, a safe place? To offer words, actions, and deeds that are wholesome, protective, and at the same time set the other person free.

I’ve always had this internal debate about whether love can be unconditional—without expectations and conditions—and have arrived at the conclusion that our self-preservation instincts always come in the way. Hence, I would like to use the phrase “selfless love” instead.

To love selflessly means that no matter the circumstance, you would be there to offer solace, guide them, or anchor them through life’s turbulent and uncertain moments. Offer them refuge when they are weary, with actions that nurture and protect them.

And then offer them freedom with a promise that when it’s time to let go, you will, giving space when words are no longer necessary.

Let It Linger

When you love someone, there’s always an enduring presence left behind, even in their absence. When the emotional connection is strong, we always find that emotional residue—a testament to the depth of the connection—leaving lasting imprints on our lives long after their physical presence has faded.

What did you think of this #micropoem? Does it resonate? I would love to read what you think.

Seashell

What do you see in a person’s gaze? Do you sense the depth and complexity that lie within? Do you see secrets that tell stories of pain, wisdom, and forsaken dreams?

Perhaps it is not enough to judge a person by their superficial expressions, which may hide how much they’ve endured, their sorrows, and their silent sighs.

A wizened soul still holds on to the promises of dreams that once thrived and aches to tell the story of their journey through life, marked by experiences.

So, the next time you look at an empty seashell, celebrate what was once vibrant and full.

Forgiveness

In our pursuit of forgiveness, we often encounter the limitations of perception.

When we look into the eyes and listen to the words of those who hold grievances or unforgiveness towards us, we realize that we can’t truly fault them. They have not come to terms with our past actions—which is all that they may be aware of.

One cannot comprehend or see us for who we are unless they truly know us. True understanding and forgiveness can only come from knowing the complete story, including the hidden or unseen aspects of our actions or intentions.

And just for a moment, if we were to assume that behind every behavior there is a positive intention, would it perhaps help us forgive and move on?

This poem was inspired by the wonderful team at @poets_island and this week’s prompt, “Sunset”, hosted by @joshmorgran and @soulful_poetry_from_the_heart.

I would love to read your takeaway from this poem, in the comments below.

Ankahi (Unspoken)

Payal (@inkedsoulwhisperer) had written an #Urdupoem on her feed before she took a short break from the gram, and I had posted an after-poem in the comments. We had decided then to post a #spokenword #collab and here it is for your listening pleasure.

How often have you faced emotional turmoil when it comes to expressing your true feelings— the inner struggle between the longing for honesty and hesitation borne of uncertainty?

We find ourselves nursing our vulnerability, grappling with whether to reveal what is on our minds and in our hearts or to hold back, fearing the sting of being judged, rejected, pitied, or abandoned.

Why do we often choose silence over truth? Is it because we fear the truth will push others away?

Does the truth truly set you free, or is it the courage to embrace and express it that actually liberates you?

Monsoon

This time of the year is always special. Usually, we write of rains and use them as a metaphor for romance and sensuality. The very talented Payal (@inkedsoulwhisperer) and I decided to flip the script and present you with a sensual poem that is a metaphor for the monsoon season.

Imagine the touch of raindrops, fresh and invigorating, leaving trails on your body. Picture the monsoon’s embrace of nature: the gentle pitter-patter of rain, the occasional thunder, and the moans from the trees as gusts of wind toss their leaves.

Think of nature’s intensity when the heavens burst with torrential rain, reaching its zenith.

We cannot control your thoughts, but we hope this caption makes you see things differently.

Do you like getting wet in the rain too?

I am a history-buff and have always been curious about one of India’s most mysterious states— Chhattisgarh—India’s 9th largest state and home to more than 80% of the country’s unique biodiversity.

So when I came across Muneeta Aneja’s (@ms_journo_) book, “Chhattisgarh: The Land of Hidden Mysteries”, I knew I had to have a copy for my collection.

Muneeta is a celebrated journalist, and her craft is evident in this book. I would classify it as one of the best you will read about the state, as she uncovers layers of its history, culture, people, and political and social fabric.

Despite its raw and unprecedented beauty, Chhattisgarh is often remembered as part of the Red Corridor due to Naxalism. Muneeta wasn’t afraid to tackle these hard truths and provided a nuanced look at the background of Naxalite activity in the state. I gained insight into the socio-political dynamics that have defined Chhattisgarh’s identity.

She has artistically showcased the paradox that is Chhattisgarh—where history and the present blend seamlessly. The state has witnessed the clash of empires and has become woven into the fabric of India’s culture, history, and religious influence. Her beautiful descriptions and photographs take us on a tour of the state’s ancient origins, revealing archaeological marvels that pre-date early civilization. She enlightens us on Chhattisgarh’s connection to the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, merging the state’s prehistory with its contemporary cultural and religious context.

The book itself is as beautiful as the state it draws its inspiration from. This is a must-read for any history buff or eager traveler.

This book will make a lasting impression on you.

Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of the museum edition of this work of art (links in @ms.journo_’s bio). Do check out her website (https://muneetaaneja.in).

Better still, reach out to her for an author-signed copy.

“You Have Changed!”

Ever so often, we feel that the person we are with has changed.

I want to offer that the essence of who one is does not fundamentally alter. Instead, as we grow older, become more aware, and mature, what we seek and hope for from ourselves and others shifts, whether in the form of financial goals, our inert desires, or simply the time we wish to spend with them.

If the premise of upsets is that they emanate from unmet expectations, then perhaps recognizing this distinction allows us to approach relationships and self-reflection with greater compassion and clarity.

Is this something you needed to hear today?
